Diploma of Commerce
Studying at ECC has been nothing short of a journey. If I had to sum it up, I’d call it a roller coaster—a ride that had its share of tough moments, slow climbs, thrilling drops, and unexpected sharp turns. Yet each twist and turn has led us to this point of achievement.
I’d love to share my special stories and experiences of college life.
My first week: Sleepless nights before orientation. I was worried I’d miss the train or drop off at the wrong bus stop. I was anxious I’d get lost on my way. Many thoughts rushed through my mind. Will I make friends? Will the assignments be hard? Will I Pass? Can I excel? Wishing I could call my sister! Looking back now, those first anxious thoughts seem so far away. I’m sure we all had our own version of this. Whether it was the first day jitters or wondering if we’d make it through the semester, those moments are a shared experience. We all long for belonging, community and like-minded people, and here at ECC, I’m sure we can say, we found exactly that.
While at ECC, I was surprised. The drive, commitment and excellence I had in me was dug out. As a graduate of ECC, I’ve had the honour of earning the Navitas Merit Scholarship and the Highest Achiever Award, and I know I’m not alone in my accomplishments. Every single one of us has faced challenges, conquered doubts, surpassed expectations and worked hard to get to this point. Whether we’ve celebrated personal milestones or overcome obstacles, we’ve been surrounded by a community that believed in us and kept us pushing forward.
Community is such an important value of ECC, and it’s evident in the events planned and the thought put behind them. Having been a student leader, I was able to see the behind-the-scenes work and the student-oriented thinking behind events. It’s all about community and making sure students know they are not alone and don’t have to do college life alone.
We’ve built lasting relationships at ECC. One particular friend, with whom I nicknamed ‘academic soldier’, was a real pillar in keeping me going. We encouraged and kept each other accountable and grew to be quite close. At ECC we didn’t just find classmates and teammates, we found friends, and family away from home.
My journeys at ECC wouldn’t have been the same without our lecturers. Each lecturer is always present, patient and hands-on. Their encouragement, patience in explaining concepts, intentionality in making sure we understand, and diligence in teaching information effectively is truly admirable.
I’d like to thank all the lecturers who taught me for the amazing work they do and highlight their devotion and intentionality with me, for they made a difference in my academic journey:
